Basicly Vince screwed Bret before Bret could screw Vince. Someone was gonna get screwed so I can't blame Vince for doing it. He was losing to WCW and he knew what it was like to have the womens title dumped on Nitro. He wasn't going to let it happen with the big strap. Maybe Bret would've givin the title up somehow before his contract was up, we will never know.
It was more business than personal.

First off I want to say that even if the worst happened and Bret went to Nitro and dumped the WWF title in the garbage, who cares. When the womens title was dumped in the garbage the world did not come to an end. If the WWF title was dumped in the garbage the world would not have ended either. So bascially Vince gave Bret a contract he was unwilling to fulfill. Then he broked a deal with WCW. After all that, Vince went out and told the time keeper or ring announcer or who ever to ring the bell and give the title to Shawn Michaels in Bret's home. Bret Hart never gave up, never was pinned. So in the WWE rule book he never actually lost the title. Not to mention there is a reason why it's called the Montreal Screwjob.

kayfabe is like how they say undertaker and kane are brothers. its practically the script and the characters, like Edge and Vickie's love was kayfabe, well I hope it was.
