i now this sounds very sad but can someone explain it to me cause i didnt watch wrestling then. and there is some joke that vince and gorilla did on air that was from the 80's i think. can someone explain BOTH of them i really would appreciate it, i just didnt watch wrestling when bret was in it

in 1997, Shawn Michaels and Brett Hart were feuding over the WWF championship, Brett was the champ. At survivor series in Montreal, Brett was scheduled to fight HBK. This would be one of Brett's last appearance in wwf cos he was moving to wcw. Vince wanted him to lose to hbk so that the wwf title didnt go to wcw but brett wouldnt lose to shawn in canada. So they agreed brett would win then drop the title on raw the next nite. The planned end was shawn would use the sharpshooter on brett (brett's finisher) and then brett would reverse to a sharpshooter. When michaels locked in the sharpshooter he didnt let brett reverse, McMahon came down to ringside and without Brett taping out Earl Hebner called for the bell and HBK won the title!

now i wouldnt say bret screwed bret you got to remember bret was in wwe for years and the event just happend to be in his home town so he thought it would be nice if he could leave a winner in his home town. its reasons like that why some wrestlers choose never to go to wwe. you need to remember the deal wasnt bret takes the belt to wcw it was bret forfeits the title the next night on raw to hbk. so hbk was gonna get the belt either way. its also that reason you wont see bret at a wwe event other than the HOF he has stayed away from wwe. im sure vince would of loved to have bret on the 15th anniversary show. bret could of easiely of showed up that night but he didnt even want to bother because of the way he was treated.

McMahon was a little over-cautious because the WWF's women's champion left to WCW, took the title with her, and threw it in a dumpster. Hart also stated that canadians would be "heartbroken" if they witnessed him lose his title in Canada. As most people know, in the pro-wrestling business, when you are told to lose, you lose, and when you're told to win, you win.

Thing is, that WOULDN'T have been Brets Final match in the WWF as he still had 30 days left on his contract.
Bret still had a certain amount of control over his "Character" & he didn't think his "Character" should have lost to one of his hated rivals in Canada. Vince went along with it & they called for the match to end on a DQ victory for Bret, as Triple H ( & possibly Chyna ) were to get involved in the match.
The Sharpshooter was to be reversed ( as you stated ) but Vince & his flunkies were ALREADY at ringside at that point. Once HBK put on the Sharpshooter, Hebner almost immediately called for the bell to act as if Bret tapped out, when in fact he was still in the process of reversing the hold.
Vince & company pretty much fucked Bret over in the worst possible way & for really NO REASON. All this FEAR that Bret would somehow take the title to WCW & toss it in the garbage was horseshit that Michaels & Hunter put in Vinces head. Bret was LOYAL to the WWF & didn't even WANT TO LEAVE. It was Vinces request that Bret accept a previous offer from WCW ( when he was a Free Agent ) as Vince cited "Financial Peril" as the reason because of the 20 year contract he gave Bret prior to this going down. ( Funny that Vince somehow freed up 3 mil after Bret left to bring in Tyson to do a few appearances. ) *rolls eyes*
Vince will continue to use the "I was just protecting my company" excuse for the reason he did it but he will also say he REGRETS IT. He knows he fucked up doing that & anyone saying otherwise is just looking to keep His or Her job in wrestling by sucking Vinces ass as much as possible.

Bret didn't screw Bret. McMahon did. He is a very paranoid person, and is always afriad someone will screw him, so he screws them instead. Vince did it on purpose and has no remorse, no matter what he says. Canada remembers it, and everyone else who saw it does too. There was really no need for it.
